Responsibility Without Authority
Bitcoin's main bottleneck is no longer cryptography or monetary design. It is the reallocation of responsibility, from end users to professional operators, developers, and capital, without recreating centralized authority.

Gil Roberts is a Bitcoin entrepreneur, derivatives trader, and Senior Partner at Washburn Bitcoin. He also founded the Roberts Consulting Network, where he advises on Bitcoin strategy and financial innovation. Washburn Bitcoin's current project, Riptide, is designed to bring Bitcoin into millions of households.
Before Bitcoin, Gil spent more than a decade in traditional finance, working across mortgage origination, commercial lending, debt recovery, and investment products. He later shifted into the nonprofit sector, helping immigrants, refugees, and underserved Americans build small businesses. That journey culminated in co-founding LHOME, a Community Development Financial Institution.
As a technology entrepreneur, Gil co-founded Brick Bridge Consulting, a workflow automation and software firm that supported nonprofits and government organizations before expanding into finance and real estate. Over his career, he has also founded multiple startups, coached winning hackathon teams, and earned recognition in venture pitch competitions.
Gil holds both an MBA in Entrepreneurship and a Bachelor's in Finance from the University of Louisville. He has appeared at Citrix's Converge Conference, Idea StateU, Louisville Dream Funders, and Venture Sharks. He is also a Knight of Columbus serving his local parish.
Most media bios don't start with a confession, but this one does. Gil spent more than a decade working across multiple products, services, and levels of what he calls “fiat mines” (better known as banks and financial services companies). His experience spans mortgage origination (SFH & MFH), debt recovery, commercial lending, insurance, annuities, derivatives, and equities. He ultimately disliked it and it made his life worse to continue.
Seeking something more meaningful, Gil moved into the public sector of finance. For nearly five years, he coached immigrants, refugees, returning citizens, and economically disadvantaged Americans to launch small businesses and pursue financial independence. This work culminated in co-founding LHOME, a Community Development Financial Institution. While the mission and his colleagues were excellent, the questionable financing methods behind public-sector programming were not. He ultimately disliked it and it made his life worse to continue.
Still trying to stay mission-driven, Gil co-founded Brick Bridge Consulting, a workflow automation and software company. Early clients included nonprofits and government entities, where Gil helped improve efficiency and reduce reliance on fragile funding streams. Over time, Brick Bridge's focus shifted toward employee-experience software and, later, to financial and real estate clients. After eight years, the drift away from mission left him unfulfilled. He ultimately disliked it, it made his life worse to continue, and three times makes a pattern.
Finally, Gil set aside his ego, walked away from fiat mining altogether, and turned toward Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church, and Bitcoin. Things improved rapidly and, seemingly, permanently.
Today, Gil works full-time in Bitcoin. Self-employed as a miner, lightning router, and advanced derivatives trader specializing in Bitcoin ETFs. By day, he is member of Strategy's “Hub” and uses the wonderful space to perform research. He holds both a Master's in Entrepreneurship (MBA) and a Bachelor's in Finance from the University of Louisville. He occasionally covers bitcoin conferences on LinkedIn and writes for Lightning.News as a passion project.
A technology entrepreneur at heart, Gil has founded multiple technology companies, coached winning hackathon teams, and earned success in venture pitch competitions. He has appeared or spoken at Citrix's Converge Conference, Idea StateU, Louisville Dream Funders, and Louisville Venture Connector's Venture Sharks. He is also a Knight of Columbus, serving his local parishes.
